The Pink Closet’s Artisanal Designs Inspired By The Amalfi Coast Are Now Available Online

An idyllic retreat set in the hills of Ravello, Palazzo Avino is a veritable pink mirage perched above Italy’s legendary Amalfi Coast. The 12th century palazzo, now a family-run hotel, is owned and operated by Mariella and Attilia Avino, two young sisters with a strong sense of style and savoir-faire. With its blush-colored walls, terraced gardens and sunlit rooms, the property is one of the most coveted destinations on the Amalfi Coast – one that blends history and heritage with feminine flair and a contemporary attitude.

The Pink Palace, as it is fondly called, boasts a heated outdoor swimming pool with mesmerizing views of the coastline, a private beach club a short drive from the hotel, and has numerous gastronomic experiences to ensure a well-rounded visit to one of Italy’s greatest food regions. Its Lobster & Martini Bar features over 100 different Martinis crafted by the hotel’s mixologist, while Neapolitan chef Giovanni Vannacore innovates on traditional dishes at the Michelin-starred Rossellinis Restaurant.

Palazzo Avino is also home to The Pink Closet: a treasure trove of designer wares and artisanal gems curated by Mariella Avino herself. Both an on-site boutique and now a digital platform, The Pink Closet offers travelers and jet setters the chance to discover one-of-a-kind pieces by independent Italian artisans and take home a slice of la dolce vita.

For Mariella, the boutique was a natural extension of Palazzo Avino, which has long hosted renowned artists and today exhibits contemporary art alongside heritage furnishings. The Pink Closet is billed as a “lifestyle museum experience” that showcases spontaneous fashion, accessories and homeware that are at once eclectic and timeless. “Each collaboration is hand-picked and represents a unique cultural and artistic exchange with the designer,” says Mariella.

Many of the limited-edition pieces are modern interpretations of classic silhouettes, like bejeweled python mules by Giannico which could easily have graced the screen of Sofia Coppola’s 2006 pop take on Marie Antoinette.

Caterina Gatta’s couture dresses re-use vintage prints from Gianni Versace, Fausto Sarli and Lancetti, giving iconic prints a new life. As can be surmised from the name, pink in all its shades is present throughout: from Hibourama snake leather handbags and Bluetiful Renaissance-inspired headbands to flamingo earrings by Olivia Dar.

An ambassador of the Camera della Moda Fashion Trust, Mariella is involved in the creative process from start to finish feels called to help promote Italian excellence at home and abroad. Mentorship, in fact, is a fundamental part of her role in the shop.

“Artisanship is part of Italy’s heritage so it’s important to work with and support its young up-and-coming designers,” she says. Each year, The Pink Closet helps finance a small production of designs to be sold in the shop and online, giving artisans both the space to be creative and providing them with enhanced visibility on a platform that reaches an affluent, international audience.

The Pink Closet boutique is located across from Palazzo Avino and was designed by renowned architect Cristina Celestino, who also renovated a collection of rooms and suites in the hotel. With inlaid marble, ceramic seashells and powder tones, The Pink Closet reflects the elegance of the hotel and takes inspiration from symbols of the Amalfi Coast. The mirrors add a playful touch, creating a veritable fashion “fun house” that beckons visitors to step inside.
