The Kansas Jayhawks are scheduled to face the Villanova Wildcats Saturday for a slot in this years NCAA Finals, and sportsbooks are giving the Jayhawks the slight nod.
After opening at -3.5, sports bettors pounced on Kansas and drove the line up to -5 at some betting sites. This early flow of bets also saw the opening total of 132 climb slightly to 133. As the slight increase suggests, bettors are expecting the pair to top the set total despite the fact that these two have fallen under the total in 4 of their last 6 head-to-head matchups.
Currently, NCAA Basketball odds are offering Kansas at -4, but this line could climb once again as we near tipoff.
Villanova Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Point Spread
Villanova Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Total
Fresh off of a dominating win over Miami, the Jayhawks have looked equally impressive on both ends of the floor. The Kansas offensive attack has looked strong all season long, and their 78.3 ppg average ranks 27th in the country. However, it is their recent defensive success that deserves the attention, as Kansas is has held tournament opponents to an average of 59.8 points.
The Villanova Wildcats have done well for backers recently, having covered the spread in their last five outings. Yet, while the team has held opponents to a mere 56.2 ppg over their seven-game Big East and NCAA Tournament run, the Wildcat offense has struggled at times.
Even if the Wildcats manage to slow the Kansas attack, the team could struggle to produce points after their second leading scorer, Justin Moore, suffered an ACL tear in the final moments of their Elite Eight matchup.
Villanova relied heavily on the guard play from Moore and Collin Gillespie, who together formed one of the premier guard duos in the country. Villanova will undoubtedly make adjustments, but look for an experienced Kansas team to exploit miscommunications.
Betting trends do highlight the fact that the Wildcats are a perfect 5-0 ATS over the Jayhawks, but this trend comes to a halt today. Kansas is the better team, and the on-court personnel changes facing Villanova will lead to a few missed assignments and turnovers that will prove costly.
Take Kansas at the -4.
