Two of Instagram’s favorite female-founded, Gen Z fashion brands have dropped the most whimsical collection of swimwear and jewelry pieces in collaboration. Celebrating female empowerment, Frasier Sterling, the DTC jewelry brand known for its feel-good, on-trend designs loved by Justin and Hailey Bieber and Blackbough Swim, the Philippines-based swim label with the dreamiest and most flattering designs, launched their co-branded bikini and jewelry capsule collection on November 17, just in time for your long-awaited vacation during the holiday season.
The much-anticipated collection features six of Blackbough’s best-selling bikini silhouettes, all accompanied by matching jewelry by Frasier Sterling.
The apparel pieces follow Blackbough’s signature aesthetics and feature Frasier Sterling’s color palette of candy floss pink and black, as well as the jewelry brand’s popular prints and motifs — four-leaf clovers, daisy flowers, heart shapes and cowboy boots, you name it.
The new range of limited-edition jewelries (12 pieces in total) includes Frasier Sterling’s most-loved styles such as hoops, rings and chokers, as well as a flirty body chain made of delicate and colorful beads, all specifically designed for the new drop.
On top of the sure-to-sell-out collection, what makes the collaboration special really is the coming together of two independent brands, both female-founded and female-led, aiming to empower women worldwide to reach for the stars and achieve their dreams, whatever they might be.
Jemina Ty, founder of Blackbough, says: “This collaboration is very near and dear to my heart. Having two, female founded and female owned brands working on such a fun and iconic collection hardly feels like work at all. Despite being thousands of miles away, both of our teams have amazing synergy and we worked incredibly hard to give our girls the dreamiest and prettiest collection possible!”
Frasier Lipton, founder of Frasier Sterling, agrees: “Our goal in everything we do is to promote self love and confidence — we always want to make our customers and followers feel good! I also think there’s something to be said about both companies being founded by women following their dreams — hopefully we can inspire other women to do the same!”
Despite having been working nonstop on the project for the past 4 months, the two founders and their teams have yet to meet in person. “This collab has been designed, planned and executed entirely online! Our teams live on opposite sides of the world (Frasier Sterling across the US and Blackbough in the Philippines) so we’ve coordinated via WhatsApp and Zoom calls early in the morning or late at night to bring this collection to life.”
I couldn’t wait to find out more about how these two popular Gen Z fashion brands brought their fans the best vacation pieces.
Angela Lei (AL): The collection is incredible — the collaboration is totally unexpected yet the merge of design aesthetics is so natural. Tell us how the collaboration idea came about.
Frasier Lipton, founder of Frasier Sterling (FL): I had been eyeing Blackbough’s bikinis for quite some time — when I finally pulled the trigger and purchased some, I fell in love with the brand! The suits are so buttery and their silhouettes so flattering. I immediately thought our followers would love a collab and sure enough the Blackbough gals were on board too! We had worked together in the past on cross marketing efforts and it was very successful — our followers loved Blackbough and vice versa! Everything Frasier Sterling does is data driven and it was an obvious opportunity for both brands.
Jemina Ty, founder of Blackbough (JT): Social media plays a huge role in letting us reach different parts of the world, enabling us to collaborate with like-minded brands! We found Frasier Sterling and were so drawn to their fun and exciting brand, we thought they were perfect for the Blackbough Swim girl. After running a successful joint giveaway, we decided to push things further and create an incredible collection together. Not only do our products complement each other, but our customers also have significant overlap. We can’t deny the fact that our brands look amazing together, but we think it’s just as important that we were able to establish good rapport and such a pleasant relationship with their team.
AL: How did you decide on the final prints/styles for the swimwear and what message do you want the new collaboration to send across?
FL: The collection is a true mesh between the two brands. We really wanted the collection to cover our gals from head to toe, so we designed everything from earrings to rings and body chains to match the suits as well. Our goal in everything we do is to promote self love and confidence — we always want to make our customers and followers feel good! I also think there’s something to be said about both companies being founded by women following their dreams — hopefully we can inspire other women to do the same!
JT: All the prints from this collection are from Frasier Sterling’s own ideas and current products. For the bikinis, we chose our best-selling styles that would highlight and enhance the Frasier Sterling prints. We made sure we picked styles that could easily be tweaked with special embellishments like new charms and trinkets, while still maintaining the familiar feel that our girls love in our suits.
With this collaboration we want to encourage women to start their own projects and businesses that they are passionate about. We want to show how two strong, female founded and female led brands were able to synergize and connect, working together in a seamless fashion and extending help and expertise to each other whenever needed.
AL: If you can only pick two pieces from the new collection, what would they be and why?
JT: Our team’s favorite would definitely be the Penny Set in Oopsie Daisy. The Penny Set is an extremely versatile set and can be worn in so many different ways, it being a classic black print just packs the perfect punch. Our close second pick is the Georgia Set in Strawberry Valentine.
AL: I’m already excited about what’s next for BB x FS — are you planning a second drop?
FL: We may or may not be dropping matching handbags in December… Stay tuned!
The sure-to-sell-out collection will be available for purchase from today, November 17. Bikinis will be available exclusively at www.blackboughswim.com and the matching jewelry at www.frasiersterling.com.
